Kebbi LG chairman debunks US lawmaker’s claim, releases names of abducted schoolgirls
The Chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area in Kebbi State, Hussaini Aliyu, has refuted allegations by a U.S. lawmaker, Riley Moore, who claimed that the Maga schoolgirls abducted last week were taken from a “Christian enclave.”
Aliyu dismissed the claim as false and capable of igniting unnecessary religious tension, stressing that all 25 abducted students are Muslims. He cautioned against circulating unverified statements that could inflame religious or ethnic divisions, especially as security agencies intensify rescue operations.
He noted that the Zuru Emirate, where the Maga community is located, has no record of religious conflict. To further counter the U.S. lawmaker’s allegations, Aliyu released the names of the abducted students:

Aliyu also revealed that the school’s Vice Principal, Malam Hassan Makuku, was killed while attempting to prevent the abduction.
The Police have deployed a combined tactical team to comb the forest and ensure the girls’ safe rescue.

Following the attack, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu—who strongly condemned the incident—postponed his planned foreign trips to South Africa and Angola. He directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to visit Kebbi State on Wednesday to commiserate with the affected families on his behalf.
