Lack of evidence bane of conviction in rape cases – Bauchi CJ

The Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Justice Rabi Talatu Umar has lamented that lack of evidence is the major cause in the Court’s inability to convict suspected rapists.

Justice Umar decried that the rise in the cases of Rape and other Sex and gender based violence is on the increase adding the menace is a serious cause for concern.

The Chief Judge who stated this when officials of the National Human Rights  Commission and human rights defenders took a walk to her office to kick start  activities for the one week activism against RAPE and other Sexual and gender based violence in Bauchi  advice parents to take care of their children especially the girl child who is mostly vulnerable.

She appreciated the efforts of the commission as this will go a long way in waking people from their slumber to assist in curbing the menace.

In her remarks, the Coordinator Bauchi National Human Rights commission, Yahcit Dala, expressed delight and called the CJ to expedite action in domesticating the Child Rights act as well as the VAPP Act.
