Liverpool player Xherdan Shaqiri test for COVID-19

Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19), the third Liverpool player in a week to have contracted the virus.

The Swiss Football Association made the announcement today and said the player was now self-isolating. Shaqiri’s last test for coronavirus prior to reporting for international duty was negative at Liverpool and he displayed no symptoms.

However, he is now the third member of Jürgen Klopp’s squad to have tested positive following Thiago Alcântara and Sadio Mané.

Shaqiri reported with Switzerland on Monday before games against Croatia, Spain and Germany, and a statement on the website of the Swiss FA, said: “Xherdan Shaqiri has tested positive for COVID-19. In consultation with the health authorities, he is in isolation.
