Man bags 16 years jail term for killing 7 DSS officers in 2015

In a verdict handed down on Tuesday, the Ikeja Division of the Lagos High Court sentenced Clement Ododomu to death by hanging and imposed a 16-year jail term on Tiwei Monday for the murder of seven officers of the State Security Service.

The court found the defendants guilty of various charges, including conspiracy to commit murder and illegal possession of firearms, dating back to September 14, 2015, in Ishawo Creek, Ikorodu, Lagos.

The State Security Service received a distress call about the kidnap of an editor’s wife, leading to a response by a nine-man team.

The officers were ambushed by vandals, with weapons seized during the operation.

The defendants pleaded not guilty, claiming they were in Lagos for their grandmother’s burial, but the judge ruled the defense failed to provide essential witnesses and showed no remorse.

While the prosecution established the defendants’ participation in the ambush, the judge discharged and acquitted them on certain counts.

The presiding judge, Hakeem Oshodi, declared, “The first defendant is hereby sentenced to imprisonment for 20 years.

The terms of imprisonment for both defendants will run concurrently. For count five and seven, which the court has found the first defendant guilty of, the sentence of the court upon you is that you be hanged by the neck until you are dead and may God have mercy on your soul.”
