Man in Ondo dies while contesting for vacant Warrant Chief

A chief, Olorundare Agoye has reportedly slumped and died while undergoing the process of the selection of a traditional stool in Akunnu Akoko in Akoko Northeast Local Government area of Ondo State, southwest Nigeria.

Chief Agoye was among the contestants for the position of vacant Warrant Chief in Akunnu, but died at the venue of selection of the position at Oke Ima quarters in the town.

According to Positive FM, the late Agoye would have contested the slot with another man from Oke Ima quarters before his sudden demise.

The selection process which was being supervised by officials of Akoko Northeast Local Government was necessary because many kingmakers in the town were no more and the vacant stool of Oluwade the monarch of Akunnu is presently opened for contest by male children from the ruling house.

It was gathered that government needs to appoint warrant chiefs to replace the real kingmakers that have passed on for them to select a new monarch for the town.

The Oluwade, Oba Obasoro joined his ancestors almost two years ago and his daughter, Princess Tolani Orogun has been acting as the regent of the town.
