Man killed, set ablaze amidst communal clash

In a tragic turn of events, a middle-aged man named Qudus met a brutal demise when he was killed and his body set ablaze inside his car at the Okanla village palace, situated in the Ilobu community of Osun State.

This gruesome act is a direct consequence of the ongoing communal conflict between the Ilobu and Ifon communities, stemming from a dispute over land ownership.

Prior to this incident, an Ilobu community native named Sodiq had lost his life on the preceding Saturday in one of the contested areas known as Opara, in an attack by unidentified gunmen.

In response, the Ilobu community alleges that the Ifon people carried out the threats to kill Sodiq, although Ifon indigenes vehemently deny any involvement.

The latest victim, Qudus, was a resident of Okanla village, strategically located between Ilobu and Ifon.

He fell victim to suspected arsonists who executed a cruel act: killing him, placing his lifeless body inside his vehicle, and setting it ablaze. This gruesome incident unfolded within the premises of the Olokanla of Okanla, a position associated with Ilobu.

Confirming the incident, Osun State police spokesperson Yemisi Opalola acknowledged the killing of Qudus.

In response to the escalating violence, Governor Ademola Adeleke has implemented a curfew in the two embattled communities.

Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, issued a statement last night, announcing the government’s decision to impose a curfew.

This measure is aimed at restoring law and order in the affected communities, with the primary goal of ensuring the safety and security of all residents.
