Meet 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullahi from Yobe State: Crowned world’s best in English language

A remarkable achievement has been recorded by 17-year-old Nafisa Abdullah Aminu, a Nigerian national from Yobe State, who secured the top position globally in English language proficiency at the 2025 TeenEagle Global Finals in London, United Kingdom.

Competing on behalf of Nigeria, through the Nigerian Tulip International College in Yobe, Nafisa distinguished herself by surpassing contestants from 69 nations and outperforming a field of 20,000 students worldwide.

Her outstanding display in the rigorous competition, which assessed diverse facets of English proficiency and communication, has brought immense honor not only to her educational institution and state but also to the entirety of Nigeria.

Notably, her victory included overcoming participants from countries where English is the native language, underscoring both her individual academic prowess and the high standard of her schooling.

This extraordinary accomplishment was announced in a statement released by Hassan Salifu, the head of the Aminu family, who attributed the success to unwavering dedication, strong discipline, and the crucial backing provided by the state government.

According to Salifu, “Our daughter’s global success would not have been possible without the visionary support for education by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni, whose efforts have brought international honour to our state and nation.”

The family also extended their gratitude to the administration and faculty of Nigerian Tulip International College for maintaining the elevated academic standards that were instrumental in preparing Nafisa for her triumph on the global platform.
