“My administration will boost food production, lower inflation in 2025” – Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians of a brighter economic future, emphasising plans to boost food production, lower inflation, and strengthen the nation’s economy in 2025.

In his New Year message, Tinubu highlighted positive economic indicators from 2024, including reduced fuel prices, growing foreign reserves, and a stronger Naira, as foundations for progress in the coming year.

“Though 2024 posed numerous challenges to our citizens and households, I am confident that the New Year will bring brighter days,” he stated, adding that the nation recorded trade surpluses, rising investments, and significant growth in the stock market.

However, the President acknowledged the persistently high cost of food and essential drugs, promising to reduce inflation from 34.6% to 15% through reforms aimed at enhancing local production.

“In 2025, our government is committed to intensifying efforts to lower these costs by boosting food production and promoting local manufacturing of essential drugs and other medical supplies,” Tinubu declared.

He announced the establishment of a National Credit Guarantee Company to expand access to credit, especially for underserved groups like women and youth. This initiative, expected to launch by mid-2025, aims to foster re-industrialisation, economic growth, and improved living standards.

Tinubu also urged state and local governments to align with federal reforms in agriculture and tax systems to maximise opportunities for economic advancement. He commended governors who adopted Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles as part of the national energy transition, pledging federal support for similar initiatives.

To further foster national unity and ethical governance, Tinubu announced plans to unveil a National Values Charter in early 2025, alongside a campaign to promote patriotism and shared values. He reiterated his commitment to engaging Nigerian youth through a National Youth Confab, set to begin in the first quarter of the year.

Expressing optimism about Nigeria’s trajectory, Tinubu reaffirmed his goal of achieving a $1 trillion economy, “We are on the right path to building a great Nigeria that will work for everyone,” he asserted, urging Nigerians to stay united and focused on nation-building.

As the nation steps into the New Year, Tinubu concluded his message with gratitude and optimism, assuring Nigerians that their sacrifices and resilience would yield significant progress in the months ahead. “By the grace of God, 2025 will be a year of great promise in which we will fulfil our collective desires,” he said.
