NAFDAC destroys ₦1.36bn counterfeit goods in Abuja

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Thursday destroyed counterfeit, adulterated, and unregistered food, drugs, and cosmetics worth approximately ₦1,367,000,000 seized in Abuja.

The destruction, conducted at the Kuje dumpsite, is part of NAFDAC’s routine efforts to eliminate substandard and harmful products from the market.

NAFDAC Director-General, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, emphasized the agency’s commitment to public health, highlighting the destruction of over ₦120 billion worth of counterfeit goods in Lagos earlier this year.

The seized items included various drugs, food products (like rebagged rice), cosmetics, and expired goods.

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) commended NAFDAC’s efforts and reiterated its commitment to enforcing regulations.

This action underscores the joint efforts of regulatory bodies to safeguard public health and ensure consumer safety.
