NAPTIP, DSS bust child trafficking syndicate, arrest female leader, 6 others

A notorious human trafficking ring, specialising in the abduction and sale of children, has been dismantled following the arrest of its female leader, Hasana Jacob, and six other suspects.

The operation, led by the Department of State Services (DSS) in partnership with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), resulted in the rescue of a three-year-old girl stolen from Damaturu, Yobe State.

Hasana Jacob, a 33-year-old truck driver for a prominent cement company based in Obajana, Kogi State, used her access to various terminals nationwide to transport stolen children undetected.

The gang, which abducted children aged one and above, sold them for N600,000 each.

Jacob and her accomplices, including Aisha Suleiman, Murtala Tanimu, Shamsu Tanimu, Adamu Jacob, Abubakar Ahmed, and Ali Muhammed, were arrested in Abuja while attempting to sell their latest victim.

Investigations revealed that the syndicate operated across Nigeria, with members playing specific roles to ensure the swift sale of stolen children.

NAPTIP’s Director General, Binta Adamu Bello, commended the collaboration with the DSS and other law enforcement agencies, emphasising the importance of continued efforts to combat such heinous crimes.
