NAPTIP rescues 14 trafficked children from Plateau
The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has successfully rescued fourteen children who were trafficked from Plateau to Lagos State. Acting on intelligence provided by a credible informant, NAPTIP’s Zonal Command in Ikeja, Lagos, carried out the rescue operation.
The children, aged between 13 and 17 years, had been subjected to exploitation as domestic staff and salesgirls and boys. NAPTIP has taken steps to address this issue and curb trafficking, but the agency appeals to the state government for logistical support in their efforts.

The rescued children, hailing from Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, were handed over to the state government in a ceremony presided over by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Caroline Dafur. In her address, Dafur assured that the children would be provided with educational opportunities and enrolled in skill acquisition programs to empower them and contribute positively to their families and communities.
As commendation towards NAPTIP’s remarkable accomplishment, the commissioner expressed gratitude for their efforts and announced that the children would undergo thorough medical examinations.
This recent rescue is not the first time NAPTIP has intervened in cases of child trafficking. The Plateau State Government, in a separate operation, also rescued seven trafficked children from Edo and Lagos states, emphasizing the significance of continued collaboration in combating this heinous crime.
