NECO releases 2025 SSCE results, reports sharp decline in exam malpractice
The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced the release of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal results, showing that 60.26 per cent of candidates secured five credits and above, including in Mathematics and English.
Speaking at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Wednesday, the Registrar and Chief Executive, Dantani Wushishi, said 1,367,210 candidates registered for the examination, with 1,358,339 eventually sitting for the tests.

Of these, 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26 per cent, obtained five credits and above, including English and Mathematics, while 1,144,496 candidates, or 84.26 per cent, earned five credits and above irrespective of the two core subjects. Wushishi described the performance as a milestone reflecting transparency, credibility, and the council’s commitment to educational standards.
He added that 1,622 candidates with special needs also took part, including those with hearing and visual impairments, albinism, autism, low vision, and other conditions.
The registrar highlighted a 61.58 per cent drop in examination malpractice, with 3,878 cases recorded in 2025 compared to 10,094 in 2024. He, however, disclosed that 38 schools in 13 states were implicated in widespread cheating and would be sanctioned accordingly.

In addition, nine supervisors in Rivers, Niger, the FCT, Kano, and Osun states will be blacklisted for aiding malpractice and other irregularities. Results from eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were also withheld following communal clashes that disrupted the examinations.
Wushishi expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for their support in NECO’s ongoing reforms, urging higher institutions to await the release of results from all examination bodies before concluding admissions.
