Nigeria army donates 6 classrooms at Kobi primary school Bauchi

Story from Najib SANI, Bauchi

The Nigeria army has built six classrooms at one of Bauchi state’s oldest schools, Kobi primary school in the state capital.

The project was facilitated by a former pupil of the school, Major General Garba Sani Abdullahi, who graduated in 1977.

Commissioning the new storey building Thursday, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Farooq Yahya, represented by General Sallau Ibrahim Ali, explained that the project was part of the CoS civil-military coordination intervention projects.

According to him, aside from its role of protecting the lives of the citizens, the army also provides interventions to host communities in the areas of education, health etc as their social responsibility.

Also speaking, the facilitator of the project, Major General Garba Sani Abdullahi said he brought the project to enable the school to accommodate its increasing population.

He stated that as an ex-pupil, he still appreciates his mentorship by the school when he was a child adding that he now feels obliged to reciprocate through interventions for the benefit of current pupils.

Responding, the state governor, Bala Mohammed represented by the Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Sirunbai Dahiru Bauchi, thanked the army for the gesture and promised that it would be properly utilised.

He said the state government on its part had spent not less than N9 billion for the construction and renovation of over 2, 000 classrooms across the state, especially in the basic education sector.

While describing General Garba as an illustrious son of the state, he urged other high profile citizens to emulate him as the government’s efforts need to be complemented.
