NSCDC clarifies dismissal of 3 personnel arrested for kidnapping

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), on Wednesday, explained that three personnel arrested for their involvement in kidnapping, banditry, and arms supply have been dismissed since 2023.
In a statement issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, Babawale Afolabi, the organisation described recent reports on the matter as misleading.
The statement clarified that the individuals in question were arrested in October 2022 and had already been dismissed from the corps in 2023.
The NSCDC emphasised that the suspects acted independently and did not represent the institution.

“Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps sternly wishes to denounce a recent media report being misrepresented in some quarters concerning a case of kidnapping, banditry, and supply of arms and ammunition.
“The report was presented as a recent incident and addressed the culprits as NSCDC personnel which is misleading and does not reflect the accuracy of facts.
“To set the record straight, the arrests in question were made in October 2022, concerning individuals who were at that time personnel of the Corps but have been dismissed since 2023.
“It is important to clarify that the suspects acted independently and did not represent the NSCDC in any capacity. The recent court proceedings held are part of the ongoing judicial process related to these arrests,” the statement read in part.
The organisation reiterated its commitment to national security and condemned any actions that compromise public safety.
Commandant General Dr. Ahmed Audi, reaffirmed the corps’ zero-tolerance policy for misconduct, indiscipline, and unpatriotic behaviour among personnel.
“NSCDC Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Audi has zero-tolerance for all acts of misconduct, indiscipline, and unpatriotic dealings among its personnel.
“The three individuals arrested have been dismissed since 2023 and are no longer operatives of the NSCDC,” it added.
According to the statement, the NSCDC continues to uphold professional standards through regular training, joint task forces, and security operations.
The agency urged media organisations to ensure accuracy and balance in their reporting to avoid misinformation that could damage public trust.
It also assured the public of its dedication to safeguarding critical national assets and protecting lives and property.
