Omokri, Grace Bent, Fani-Kayode, others arrive Senate for ambassadorial screening
Several ambassadorial nominees, including Reno Omokri, Senator Grace Bent, and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, arrived at the National Assembly on Thursday for their Senate screening.
Also present were former Interior Minister Abdulrahman Dambazau, former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, and former Enugu State Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
Their screening follows two weeks after President Bola Tinubu submitted a 32-member ambassadorial nominee list to the Senate for confirmation on November 29. The list includes 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadors.
According to the Presidency, the nominees will represent Nigeria in countries with established diplomatic relations and at international organizations such as the United Nations.
The list features several high-profile political figures, including former INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, former governors Okezie Ikpeazu and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, former presidential aide Reno Omokri, and former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode. Among the nominees, four women are career diplomats, while six are non-career appointees.

Since the announcement, the nominations have generated public debate, particularly regarding the inclusion of former political officeholders.
