OPSH condemns attack on miners, commuters in Jos

The Commander, Operation Safe Haven, Major Gen. Ibrahim Ali has confirmed that no fewer than five persons have been killed after unknown gunmen launched an attack in Jos North and Bassa communities on Wednesday.

Major Gen. Ibrahim Ali, while condemning the attacks, commiserated with the families of the victims over the unfortunate incidents.

The military information officer of OPSH, Major Ishaku Takwa, in a press statement, confirmed the attacks in Yelwa Zangam of Jos North Local Government council of Plateau State. He said they received a distress call about a civil unrest that ensued between Fulani herders and miners at Yelwa Zangam general area of Jos North LGA in the early hours of Tuesday, 15 February 22.

According to him, in the late hours of the same day, a vehicle conveying passengers was attacked along Jos-Jingir road.

He disclosed that troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN swiftly responded to both incidents and brought the situation under control, but unfortunately, one person was killed and another injured at the mining site.

“On the unfortunate attack on commuters, three persons lost their lives, two other passengers sustained varying degree of injuries and six others were rescued.

While assuring that everything would be done to bring perpetrators of the violence to justice, General Ibrahim Ali urged law abiding citizens to remain calm as troops are already on the trail of the perpetrators of the attacks.
