Osinbajo, CAN, MURIC condemn gruesome murder of pregnant Harira, her 4 kids by ESN/IPOB

Following the brutal murder of a pregnant woman, Harira Jubril, and her four kids by suspected members of Eastern Security Network/Indigenous People of Biafra (ESN/IPOB), Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have condemned the brutal act and sympathised with the relations of the victims, while demanding justice for the slain family.

While speaking with journalists shortly after meeting party delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Makurdi, Benue State. Professor Osinbajo described the killing as callous and must be condemned by all.

“The killing of a pregnant woman, Mrs Harira Jubril, and her children in Anambra State demeans us all. It is such a callous act and so brutal. And I think that we must be very careful, as a people, with this type of killings that are going on, especially where it is obviously to create horror, annoyance and create a situation where we begin to have ethnic conflicts again and all that.

“How does anyone kill a woman and her children? I think it is such a terrible tragedy condemnable by all. Mr President has spoken about it and I just want to join my voice with those of others who are completely outraged by it.” The VP said.

Similarly, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemned the killing of the Arewa woman and urged security agencies to fish out those committing crimes in the name of Biafra.

According to a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, Special Assistant to the President of CAN, His Eminence, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, “The brutal murder of Madam Fatima and her four children is sad, this criminality is totally unacceptable, unjustifiable, and reprehensible to CAN and all right-thinking people.

“We call on the security operatives to wake up to their responsibilities. The criminals are now operating with impunity while those who are expected to stop or apprehend them appear powerless.

“CAN calls on the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOBs) to stop these criminalities under the pretext of fighting for independence.

“We call on the political elites, religious leaders, and the traditional rulers of Ndigbo extraction to prevail over the violent groups in the Eastern part of the country to stop the needless bloodshed and tension they are causing for the economic prosperity and wellbeing of the region. CAN commiserates with all the bereaved of the senseless killings especially the immediate family of lady Fatima and the recently murdered Honourable member of Anambra State House of Assembly, Okechukwu Okoye. May God console and comfort them as He pours healing balm on their wounds in Jesus’ name”. The statement reads.

Also reacting to the unfortunate incident, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) said the killing is barbaric and no family deserves to be wiped out in such a manner while appealing to Northerners not to retaliate, as vengeance will only ignite a cycle of violence.

Director, MURIC, Professor Ishaq Akintola, in a statement, said, “A pregnant Hausa woman was brutally murdered along with her three children in Anambra State on Sunday, 22 May 2022.

“We strongly condemn this killing, it is brutish, horrendous, and barbaric. We call on the security agencies to smoke out the killers and bring them to justice. At the same time, we ask all men of conscience to speak up and condemn this killing.

“In particular, we ask the British Embassy in Nigeria and other Western sources to condemn this ugly incident with the same vehemence that they condemned other killings. In the same vein, we charge all social critics, who have condemned other killings to speak up against this latest brutality. We call for fairness in comments on developments in Nigeria. Selective condemnation of evil cannot bring peace either to Nigeria or to the world at large.

“Nigeria needs peace at this crucial time. Therefore, nobody should embark on reprisal killing. It will only compound the problem,” he said.
