Oyo State shuts down banks, Telecoms over unpaid dues

The Oyo State Government has taken action against several commercial banks and telecommunications companies operating in the Ibadan metropolis.

This development was announced through a press release issued by Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation in Oyo State.

The enforcement initiative was conducted by the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, led by Esv. Olufisayo Ogunbiyi, the Director of Land Use Charge. The primary reason for this action was the non-compliance of these businesses in paying their dues to the state government.

Esv. Olufisayo Ogunbiyi, the Director of Land Use Charge, clarified that prior to the enforcement, the affected commercial banks and telecommunications companies had been served with notices regarding their outstanding payments.

He assured them that once they settled their Land Use Charge obligations, their premises would be allowed to resume normal operations.

It’s important to note that the Oyo State Government maintains a strict policy of zero tolerance for non-compliance with its regulations.

Business owners are strongly encouraged to ensure the timely payment of charges to the state government to avoid disruptions to their operations, as the enforcement measures are ongoing.

The Director of Land Use Charge also urged residents of the state to reach out to the Ministry through the contact number 0700 OYO LANDS (070069652637) or by sending an email to lands@oyostate.gov.ng for any inquiries or assistance related to Land Use Charge.

Rate payers have the option to make their Land Use Charge payments by visiting pay.lands.oyostate.gov.ng.

Additionally, an online payment option is available for download via the Oyo State Property Reference System (OYPRS) application, which can be found on the Google Play Store or App Store. This app helps identify outstanding land use charges for specific buildings and properties.

The enforcement team included Land Officers and representatives from Private Networks Nigeria Ltd, the IGR Consultant for the Ministry of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development.
