Plateau Governor Caleb Mutfwang resigns from PDP

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has formally withdrawn his membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), marking a major political shift in the state.

In a resignation letter dated December 29, 2025, and addressed to the PDP chairman of his Ampang West Ward, Dasjak Sunday Longyol, the governor said his decision was driven by the need to explore an alternative political platform that would better enable him to serve the people of Plateau State.

Mutfwang expressed appreciation to the PDP for offering him the opportunity to participate in Nigeria’s democratic process and acknowledged the support he received from party leaders and members throughout his time in the party.

“I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party with immediate effect,” the governor stated in the letter, which he personally signed. “I sincerely appreciate the PDP for providing me the political platform to participate in the democratic process.

“I also appreciate the support of party leaders, members, and supporters at all levels during my time in the party, and I remain grateful for the trust reposed in me.”

Explaining his decision, Mutfwang said current political realities and his commitment to purposeful leadership, clarity of direction, and effective service delivery compelled him to seek a new political platform.

The governor, however, did not reveal the party he intends to join.
