Police, Army block #EndSARS memorial protesters in Abuja

Nigerian youths protesting in memory of those killed and brutality at Lekki tollgate in Lagos State and around the country during the #EndSARS protest on October 10, 2020, have been blocked, by Armed security operatives of the Nigerian force.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, the protest, tagged #EndSARSMemorial, was kicked off from the Unity Fountain with a demand for the end of police brutality in the country.

The protest, led by human rights activists, Omoyele Sowore, Deji Adeyanju and Pelumi Olajengbesi, was abruptly disrupted shortly after take-off in front of the Ministry of Justice by combined security operatives including; the Nigerian Police, the Army and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The protesters started off by chanting anti-government songs as well as the national anthem and urged the government to stop police brutality.
Insisting on marching to the National Assembly and the demand for justice for the victims of the Lekki massacre, the protesters were, however, prevented by the security operatives led by the FCT Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Ben Igweh.

The police and security operatives asked the protesters to return to the Unity Fountain and continue with their protest which led to an altercation as the protesters stood their ground.
