Police arrest 2 suspected traffic robbers

Story by Zara Ahmed

The Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS) has apprehended two notorious traffic robbers who were operating in the Ketu and Mile 12 areas of Kosofe, Lagos State.

The suspects, Yemi Aparaojo, 33, popularly known as Asa, and Samuel Adekunle (also known as Omo-jo-Ibo), 37, were apprehended at about 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday.

Aparaojo, an ex-convict, had been released from Kirikiri Maximum Correctional Centre in May 2025 after serving six and a half years. Adekunle, who had been linked to multiple traffic robberies around Ajelogo and Ketu, had been under surveillance by the RRS operatives.

Last week, the suspects and two accomplices allegedly robbed a passerby of ₦25,000 around noon. The victim, who had attempted to assist the gang with money after they pestered him, was subsequently assaulted.

On Tuesday, the victim identified Adekunle and alerted RRS operatives, who swiftly apprehended the suspects. Two other members of the gang escaped through the Ketu market.

The Commander of the Rapid Response Squad, CSP Sola Jejeloye, acting on the directives of the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, has reinforced RRS operations in Ketu and Mile 12 to combat rising crime.

Jejeloye has also ordered the immediate arraignment of the suspects while operatives continue efforts to apprehend the remaining gang members.
