Police dismiss 2 Inspectors for armed robbery, illegal raids

Story from Hamzat Ibrahim ABAGA

Two police inspectors, Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen, stationed at the Zone 2 Command headquarters in Onikan, Lagos State have been dismissed from their positions over armed robbery and other illegal activities.

The dismissal, ordered by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG Mohammed Ali, follows an Orderly Room trial where the officers were found guilty of armed robbery, official corruption, and illegal duty.

Inspectors Adetoye (Force number 279495) and Stephen (Force number 223521), along with two members of a Vigilante Group, Semiu Afisu and Abidoye Femi, and a driver identified as Charles John, allegedly conducted an unauthorised raid on a residence in Obada-Oko community, Ogun State, on November 23, 2023, at around 10 pm.

Armed with two Submachine SMG rifles and live ammunition, the group reportedly searched the apartment of Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday, making off with five iPhones, one Samsung smartphone, one Tecno smartphone, and two laptops.

The Zonal Public Relations Officer, SP Umma Ayuba, disclosed that the arrest of the perpetrators was facilitated by police officers from Ifo Division, who set up a roadblock based on information provided by other residents. However, ASP Ajayi Victor, who led the illegal operation, is currently at large.

Members of the public have been urged to report any unprofessional conduct by officers, highlighting the police’s dedication to the protection of all citizens.
