PPDC in Adamawa partners with CSOs for justice sector reforms
The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has partnered with Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Adamawa State to drive justice sector reforms aimed at enhancing access to justice and improving legal processes for vulnerable populations.
During the partnership meeting in Yola, PPDC’s Project Officer in Adamawa, Fatima Raji, highlighted that the collaboration is part of the outcomes of the Reforming Pretrial Detention in Nigeria (RPDN) Phase II project.
“The main objective of this partnership is to foster collaboration and teamwork among justice sector professionals,” Raji explained. “We aim to improve access to justice for citizens, particularly vulnerable populations, and to enhance transparency and accountability within the justice system.”
Raji further emphasized the importance of supporting evidence-based decision-making through data analytics, which will reduce errors and inconsistencies in justice processes, streamline case management, and reduce delays.
According to her, the project seeks to build the capacity of Nigeria’s judicial and corrections officials in selected states, ensuring that they are equipped to handle and facilitate necessary legal and other services for pre-trial detainees.

“The Reforming Pretrial Detention in Nigeria (Phase II) project is a continuation of a pilot project funded by the U.S. Government through the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) since 2018. The second phase expands the project to five new locations: Adamawa, Kaduna, Lagos, Nasarawa, and Plateau States,” Raji noted.
In her address, Hauwa Yusuf, the PPDC’s Programme Assistant, called on the CSOs to unite in their efforts to ensure justice and the protection of citizens’ rights in Adamawa.
Amina Ali, leader of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Women’s Forum in Adamawa, praised the partnership as a significant step toward improving access to justice. “This initiative will boost our efforts, particularly in ensuring justice for vulnerable groups in the state and beyond,” Ali stated.
The partnership aims to not only reform pretrial detention but also bring lasting improvements to the state’s justice system through teamwork, transparency, and efficient legal processes.
