In a groundbreaking move, the Bauchi State House of Assembly conducted its first virtual screening, confirming veteran journalist Usman Shehu Usman as a commissioner. This historic session, conducted via Zoom, underscores the legislative body’s adoption of technology to enhance governance.
Usman Shehu Usman, a former Service Chief of Deutsche Welle Hausa Service, was one of eight nominees submitted by Governor Bala Mohammed for confirmation. Currently based in Germany, Usman participated remotely, answering critical questions posed by legislators and impressing them with his competence and readiness to serve.
Hailing from Giade Local Government Area, Usman began his early education with Islamic studies before attending primary and secondary schools in Bauchi State. He later advanced to university, building a remarkable career that led to his nomination.
The screening excited both legislators and the public, as many witnessed the session live. Observers hailed the use of Zoom as a significant step in modernizing legislative processes, enabling inclusivity and efficiency.

The Assembly also screened and confirmed seven other nominees, including Hon Isa Babayo Tilde, Dr. Mohammed Lawal Rimin Zayam, Abdullahi Mohammed, Dr. Bala Musa Lukshi, Iliyasu Aliyu Gital, Prof. Titus Saul Ketkukah, and Hon Adamu Babayo Gabarin, ensuring a full complement of the Bauchi State Executive Council.
This innovative approach reflects the Assembly’s commitment to breaking geographical barriers and embracing forward-thinking governance methods.
