Senate refers Natasha to Ethics Committee for review

Following the drama over the seating arrangement in the Senate last Thursday involving Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of Kogi Central, the matter has been referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions for further disciplinary action.

Senate spokesperson Senator Yemi Adaramodu raised a point of order to address the issue, asserting that his privileges were violated by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s refusal to occupy the new seat allocated to her. Senators present at the Tuesday plenary session strongly condemned Akpoti-Uduaghan’s conduct, stating that it violated the Senate’s standing rules, which grant the Senate President the authority to allocate seats.

In his contribution, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele emphasized that the appropriate course of action was to refer the issue to the Ethics Committee.

Senator Bamidele also took the opportunity to propose a motion for a vote of confidence in Senate President Akpabio. The motion was seconded by Minority Leader Senator Abba Moro, who urged Akpabio, as a father figure, to handle the situation with leniency for the overall well-being of the Senate.

In response, Senate President Godswill Akpabio referred the matter to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions, requesting that a report be submitted within two weeks.
