Six defence directors kidnapped en – route to Abuja
The Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) has raised alarm over the abduction of six directors from the Ministry of Defence who were kidnapped while travelling from Lagos to Abuja for a promotion examination.
According to the union, the officials were attacked on Monday, November 10, 2025, in what was described as a “well-coordinated ambush.”
In a statement jointly signed by ASCSN President Shehu Mohammed and Secretary-General Joshua Apebo, the victims were identified as Mrs. Ngozi Ibeziakor, Mrs. C.A. Emeribe, Mrs. C. Helen Ezeakor, Mrs. C.A. Ladoye, Mrs. J.A. Onwuzurike, and Mrs. Catherine O. Essien—all staff members of Command Day Secondary School (CDSS), Ojo, Lagos.

“These directors, who are members of our union, were travelling to Abuja when they were kidnapped,” the statement said.
The ASCSN disclosed that the Ministry of Defence had mobilised security agencies to secure the victims’ release. It also urged the Federal Government to decentralise promotion and verification exercises to reduce the risks faced by civil servants.
“We have repeatedly advised the Federal Civil Service Commission to conduct promotion examinations within states, instead of compelling officers to undertake long and dangerous journeys to Abuja,” the union stated. “The current security situation and poor road conditions expose workers to grave danger.”
Security operatives are reportedly combing suspected hideouts in Kogi State, where the incident took place. The state has recently witnessed an uptick in kidnapping incidents.

Just days earlier, on November 8, 2025, ten people were abducted along the Dekina-Ajiyolo-Anyigba Road, while a similar attack in June claimed one life and left six others injured.
The ASCSN commended the Defence authorities for their prompt response and called on all security agencies to intensify efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted officers.
