Supreme Court to deliver verdict on PDP’s suit against Tinubu, Shettima on May 26
The Supreme Court has set May 26 as the date for delivering its verdict in a case brought by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) against President-elect Bola Tinubu and Vice President-elect Kassim Shettima.
The PDP is seeking their disqualification and a reversal of the Court of Appeal’s ruling, led by Justice James Abundaga, which stated that the party did not establish its locus standi.
The PDP filed the suit on July 28, 2022, arguing that Shettima’s nomination as Tinubu’s running mate violated sections 29(1), 33, 35, and 84(1)(2) of the electoral act of 2022.

The party claimed that Shettima’s simultaneous nomination for the vice-presidential position and the Borno Central senatorial seat was in violation of the law.
The PDP requested an order to disqualify the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tinubu, and Shettima from participating in the presidential election, as well as an order to nullify their candidacies.
However, the trial judge at the Court of Appeal, Inyang Ekwo, dismissed the suit, citing the PDP’s lack of locus standi to bring the case.
Dissatisfied with the ruling, the PDP decided to appeal the judgment.
