Suspect arrested for setting 74-year-old woman on fire
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested 33-year-old Obinna Anene, the principal suspect in the murder of 74-year-old Alice Anene, which occurred in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area.
In a statement released on Tuesday, Anambra State Police Spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, who had been tracked to a location after fleeing the crime scene.
On January 25, Obinna Anene, a resident of Amene Village in Abagana, allegedly conspired with three other individuals—who are currently in police custody—to set Alice Anene, who was in a wheelchair, on fire. Following the attack, the suspects reportedly obtained a casket and planned to bury the deceased along with her wheelchair. However, police were alerted to the scene, where they found the charred remains of the victim, the wheelchair, and the casket.
Anene had escaped the scene, but the other three suspects were arrested and remain in custody. Ikenga disclosed that Anene is now being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Awka, where he is undergoing debriefing.
“Further details will be communicated,” he added.
