Terrorism claims lives of 2000 Nigerians in quarter 1, 2022 – Report

Nigeria has recorded a high increase in insecurity activities especially in the Northern states during the first 3 months of 2022. Terrorism by various groups continue to plague the country ranging from militants, armed robbers, Boko Haram, ISWAP, ESN/IPOB and bandits.

Kidnapping and killing activities have been on the rise day and night throwing the citizen into a state of panic and fear of the unknown. According to #StatiSense reports, the number of people abducted in the 12 most affected states in 2022 are as follows;

2. Kaduna-448
3. Zamfara-138
4. Katsina-106
5. Kogi-51
6. Imo-32
7. Sokoto-32
8. Borno-28
9. Taraba-22
10. Kebbi-20
11. Delta-20
12. Plateau-13

Below are the statistics on the number of people taken between Jan 1, 2022 and March 1, 2022. Also, the report released figures showing the number of people killed as a result of terrorism in 15 states with the highest insecurity rates as follows;

4. Kaduna-332
5. Katsina-203
6. Kebbi-114
7. Taraba-88
8. Benue-64
9. Anambra-62
10. Plateau-52
11. Enugu-45
12. Ogun-40
13. Imo-37
14. Sokoto-32
15. Delta-29

The total number of people killed in the first 3 months of this year was 2,968. Number of affected people of about 1,103 are from the North-West, about 984 from the North-Central, 488 from the North-East, 181 from the South-East, while the South-West recorded about 127, with 85 from the South-South.

From the above statistics, Northern Nigeria accounted for 86.8 percent of the total population killed in the first 3 months of this year, bringing it to a total of 2,575 people and the Southern part accounted for 13.2 percent of total causalities with 393.
