Tinubu meets Shekarau, as new faction takes control of APC machinery in Kano

Story from Shafa’atu DAUDA, Kano

The National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Bola Ahmed Tinubu was in a closed-door meeting with Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, Senator representing Kano Central, in Lagos, on Sunday.

The meeting was a wake-up call from the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu as Ibrahim Shekarau strategically take control of APC machinery in Kano.

Neptune Prime reports that Tinubu was concerned with the ongoing political crises in Kano State, whereby the APC leadership was snatched from the governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, which is allegedly due to undemocratic dispositions on his part.

Recalled that Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who is among the founding members of the APC in the merger agreement documented on February 6th, 2013 signed for ANPP, Tom Ikimi signed for ACN, Garba Muhammad Sani signed for CPC and Senator Annie Okonkwo signed for APGA.

An FCT High Court on Tuesday presided by Justice Hamza Muazu gave a judgement upholding the parallel congress held by the Ibrahim Shekarau led faction that produced Ahmadu Haruna Danzago as Chairman, and ultimately voiding Ganduje’s faction that had Abdullahi Abbas as Chairman.

Similarly, on Saturday at the 21st anniversary of Mambayya House in Kano, Ekiti State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Dr Kayode Fayemi with his Jigawa State counterpart, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar addressed Alhaji Ahmadu Haruna Danzago as Kano APC Chairman, rather than Abdullahi Abbas whom Ganduje endorsed.

Our source gathered that Tinubu is also positioning himself within this new political re-arrangement in Kano State and is quick to recognise Shekarau as the arrowhead of the new awakening.

Although details of the meeting have not been made known, there are insinuations that Tinubu is already dumping Abdullahi Ganduje with the belief that the machinery of the party in the state is now with the Ibrahim Shekarau group with anticipation of delivering Kano to the party in 2023 general elections.
