Tinubu suspends NSIPA Chief, Halima Shehu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the suspension of Halima Shehu, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and National Coordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA).

Effective immediately, Shehu’s suspension was confirmed, and a replacement has been ordered, as reported by Channels Television.

Halima Shehu, appointed by President Tinubu in October 2023 and subsequently endorsed by the Senate on October 18, 2023, played a pivotal role in digitalizing the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme during her tenure as the National Coordinator.

With a background in banking, she contributed her expertise at the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development from 2017 to 2022.

A native of Kafin Dagi village, Katsina, Katsina State, Shehu’s educational journey led her to Federal Government College, Kaduna State, and Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where she earned degrees in English Language and International Affairs and Diplomacy.

Beyond her academic pursuits, Shehu embarked on a decade-long banking career, holding key roles in various banking units across Intercity Bank, Unity, and Access Banks.

Transitioning into politics in 2010, she served as a Senior Special Assistant to the former governor of Katsina State, Ibrahim Shema, and contributed to the state’s Internal Revenue Board.

Her involvement in regional affairs led to an appointment by the Economic Community of West African Countries in 2016, where she served as a presidential election observer in Cape Verde.

Despite her diverse career, Shehu’s suspension marks a significant development in her trajectory within the NSIPA.
