Tragedy in Sokoto: Fighter jet mistakenly bombs villages, many feared dead

In a heartbreaking incident, a fighter jet targeting the Lakurawa terrorist group mistakenly bombed two villages—Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa—in Silame Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The tragic airstrike, which occurred around 7 a.m. on Wednesday, left several villagers feared dead and many others injured. According to Malam Yahya, a resident of Silame, the affected communities are near Surame Forest, a known hideout for Lakurawa and other bandits.

The chairman of Silame LGA, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammad Daftarana, confirmed the attack, stating:

“The villagers were sitting peacefully when the bombs started dropping. They were innocent and peace-loving people who had no criminal record. It’s too early to confirm the exact number of casualties as we are still assessing the damage.”

Meanwhile, another source reported that over 10 villagers lost their lives, with many others sustaining severe injuries.

When contacted, the spokesperson for the Sokoto State Police Command, ASP Ahmad Rufa’i, declined to comment, stating that the operation was outside the police’s purview.
