Troops arrest man in Yobe for smuggling govt-distributed farm machinery

Troops from the Forward Operations Base in Potiskum, Yobe State, have apprehended a 40-year-old man, Mallam Auwal Sule, for attempting to smuggle farm machinery recently distributed by the state government out of the region.

Brigadier General Dahiru Abdulsalm (retd), the Special Adviser to the Yobe State Governor on Security Matters, announced the arrest in a statement on Sunday. Sule was found with 11 seed planters, which he claimed to have purchased from beneficiaries of the Yobe State Government’s Agricultural Empowerment Programme for N40,000 each at his shop in Babban Kasuwa, Potiskum. He intended to sell the items in Kano.

“The suspect and the seized items have been handed over to the NSCDC for further investigation,” Abdulsalm said.

Governor Mai Mala Buni had previously cautioned against undermining government initiatives aimed at transforming agriculture in the state. He stressed that any attempt to sabotage these efforts would be met with severe consequences, including the arrest and impounding of tractors and machinery crossing state borders.
