Troops Nab three ISWAP recruitment operatives in Borno

Troops of the Nigerian military have arrested three suspected recruitment agents of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) during a security operation in Borno State.

Security sources disclosed that the suspects were apprehended following actionable intelligence that exposed their role in mobilising and indoctrinating young men to join the terrorist group. The arrest was carried out during a coordinated operation in a community identified as a known recruitment corridor for insurgent activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly acted as middlemen, persuading vulnerable youths with promises of financial rewards and protection before facilitating their movement to ISWAP camps. Items believed to be linked to terrorist operations were also recovered from them at the point of arrest.

Military authorities said the suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further interrogation to uncover their network, sponsors, and other collaborators operating within and outside the state.

The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Armed Forces to dismantle terrorist recruitment structures and cut off the flow of fresh fighters into insurgent groups in the North-East.

Troops have assured residents of Borno and neighbouring states of sustained operations aimed at restoring lasting peace and security to the region.
