We have no reason to complain says Tinubu, inaugurates National Economic CouncilĀ 

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has charged state governors to live up to expectations in improving the country’s economy as he inaugurates the National Economic Council (NEC).

The NEC was inaugurated on Thursday, June 15 at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa.

This comes barely a week after the president directed the NEC to meet to come up with interventions to mitigate the effects of the petroleum subsidy.

The President charged the council to support his administration in transforming the economic fortunes of the country.

He, however reminded the council of the promise made during his inaugural speech that he would focus on eight priority areas including security, economy, job creation, agriculture and infrastructure among others.

President Tinubu noted that the task of the growing the economy is quite enormous but he and the Governors should have no reason to complain, as he underlined the need harness the Nations potentials to stimulate serious growth.

“The task of growing our economy is enormous but you and I asked for this job. We campaigned for it, we danced for it and even begged for it, so we have no reason to complain,” President Tinubu to State Governors.

The NEC was established by the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, as amended; Section 153(1) and Paragraphs 18 & 19 of Part I of the Third Schedule. Membership of the NEC comprises of the 36 state governors, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other co-opted government officials.

As one of the executive bodies of the federal government, The NEC has the mandate to advise the president concerning the economic affairs of the country and, in particular, on appropriate measures for the co-ordination of the economic plans and programs of government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

The Council is to be headed by Vice President Kashim Shettima.
