Yobe Electoral Commission assures of fairness as LG elections hold on Nov. 25

Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) revealed that the forthcoming November 25th, 2023 local government elections in the state shall be free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Known Friday in Damaturu while briefing journalists about the ongoing preparation towards the conduct of the local government elections in the state.

He stated that Governor Mai Mala Buni has graciously given the approval to the State Independent Commission (SIEC) to conduct the Elections for the 17 chairmen and 178 councillors of the local government councils in Yobe state to hold on 25th November 2023.

“This is in consonance with the provision of section 197 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, our press men and women will ensure full dissemination of the information to all electorates in Yobe State.

“The political parties will be issued with elections guidelines to enable them to fill in suitable candidates of quality repute and substance which will yield good governance at the grassroots level”, said the SIEC Chairman.

Dr Mamman further revealed that all Yobians are eligible to contest for councillorship and chairmanship after attaining the age of 25 and 30 without gender bias.

“A fee of ₦300,000 for the Chairman, ₦250,000 for the Vice Chairman and ₦200,000 for councillors respectively,” said Dr Mohammad.

He urged security officers, staff and electoral officers to double their efforts to ensure the success at polls.
