Yobe Ministry of Health has begun a five-day capacity building training for 50 nurses and midwives in modern reproductive health and family planning management skills.
The training exercise is part of the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme (MCPDP).
The Commissioner for Health and Human Resource, Dr Muhammad Gana, stated this at the inauguration of the training exercise, on Monday in Damaturu.
Gana, represented by Mustapha Muhammad, Head of Nursing, State Specialist Hospital, Damaturu, said the training is for nursing and other health workers to update their knowledge to enhance quality healthcare service delivery in the state.
“Considering the fact that science is dynamic and the way things are changing, there is a need for health workers to be updating their knowledge,” he said.

According to him, the training exercise is being implemented in collaboration between the ministry, Nigerian Nursing and Midwifery Council and Marie Stopes Reproductive Choices.
In her remarks, Hajiya Aisha Ibrahim, the State Clinical Training Officer, Marie Stopes, said the organisation was providing services in the area of reproductive health.
Ibrahim said that the intervention in Borno and Yobe focused on family planning, health management, Sexual Transmitted Diseases (STDs), reproductive health and post-abortion care services.
She said that the participants would be exposed to Long Active Reversible Contraceptives (LARC).
“We are trying to make them understand what is LARC, how it works, its benefits and reversibility compared to other methods of family planning,” she said.
