Yobe State University appoints Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir as Vice-Chancellor

Professor Mohammed Bashir Tahir has been appointed as the new substantive Vice-Chancellor of Yobe State University by His Excellency, Governor Mai Mala Buni.
The appointment, made on the recommendation of the University’s Governing Council, was confirmed during an extraordinary council meeting held on January 15, 2026, and takes immediate effect.

Professor Tahir, a distinguished general surgeon and Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons, brings extensive experience in both academia and public service. He previously served as Medical Director of the Ultra-Modern Police Hospital in Damaturu.
The announcement was formally communicated by Alhaji Ahmed Mustapha Goniri, Esq., Chairman of the Governing Council of Yobe State University, who expressed confidence in Professor Tahir’s leadership to advance the institution’s academic and administrative excellence.
