Yobe youth groups endorse Lawan Kolo Geidam for 2027 Governorship

Youth organizations across Yobe State have thrown their weight behind Lawan Kolo Geidam as their preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The endorsement was announced on Thursday in Damaturu by the Democratic Enlightenment for Good Governance (DEGG), a youth-driven organization with structures across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the coalition, DEGG Coordinator Adamu Hussaini Yunusa said the decision followed wide-ranging consultations with 178 local coordinators drawn from all of Yobe’s local government areas. He explained that the youths resolved that the state requires a leader with proven experience in public administration, grassroots politics, and youth development to sustain and deepen progress.

Yunusa cited Geidam’s career spanning local, state, and national levels, including his service as a local government chairman and as a civil servant. He currently serves as Permanent Secretary for Youth Development at the Federal Capital Territory Administration.

“Lawan Kolo Geidam has consistently promoted youth education, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship, helping many young people secure sustainable livelihoods in business, the civil service, and non-governmental organizations,” Yunusa said.

He added that Geidam has remained accessible and committed to mentoring young people, sustaining their trust and support despite serving outside Yobe State.

According to the group, the endorsement is driven by a desire to consolidate gains in human capital development and inclusive governance. The youths believe Geidam possesses the vision and network needed to attract investments and partnerships that will boost infrastructure and economic growth in the state.

Responding on behalf of Geidam, a former local government chairman and close associate, Adamu Yahaya Alabura, expressed appreciation to the youth groups for their support, assuring them that their endorsement would be conveyed to Geidam at the appropriate time.

The development signals early grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2027 elections, with Yobe youths positioning themselves as a significant force in shaping the state’s political future.
