17-year-old girl raped, impregnated by father, elder brother

Story from Hamzat Ibrahim ABAGA

The Family Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, has issued an order to remand Michael Ayinde, 51, and his son, Abiola, 19, on charges of allegedly raping and impregnatiing 17-year-old Abiola’s sister.

Magistrate O. O. Ogunkanmi, presiding over the case, refrained from accepting the defendants’ pleas, directing their remand at the Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo town.

The accused, identified as the father and older brother of the complainant, reportedly committed the heinous act at their residence in the Agboti Olosan area of Alakia, Ibadan.

Mrs Ogunkanmi clarified that the decision to remand the father and son aimed to await legal advice from the Oyo State Directorate of Public Prosecutions, DPP. Consequently, she adjourned the matter until February 21 for further proceedings.

During the court session, Prosecution Counsel Inspector Gbemisola Adedeji presented disturbing details.

He said Abiola Ayinde, the brother, allegedly engaged in unlawful sexual intercourse with his younger sister from 2021 to December 2023, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy.

Simultaneously, their father, Michael, is accused of having unlawful carnal knowledge of his 17-year-old daughter without her consent during the same period.

These egregious acts, according to Adedeji, violate section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law from 2006. The legal process unfolds, shedding light on a deeply distressing case of family abuse.
