The Federal Government has declared Friday, May 1, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s International Workers’ Day.
Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday on behalf of the Federal Government and congratulated Nigerian workers for their commitment to national development.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Magdalene Ajani, the minister praised workers across the country for their dedication, describing their contributions as vital to the nation’s growth and prosperity.
Tunji-Ojo urged workers to continue promoting patriotism, productivity, and diligence in their various fields, noting that the government remains committed to improving workers’ welfare and security.
“The Federal Government has declared Friday, 1st May 2026, a public holiday to celebrate this year’s International Workers Day,” the statement read.
The minister also assured Nigerians of the government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for economic growth and sustainable development.
He encouraged citizens to remain peaceful and law-abiding during the celebration while reflecting on the importance of unity and hard work in nation-building.
