Boko Haram terrorists ambush military outpost, kill 40 Chadian soldiers

Boko Haram terrorists have killed more than 40 Chadian soldiers during a surprise attack they launched on a military unit in the Lake Chad province, near the Nigerian border.

According to AllAfrica news, the Chadian government said the unit had been dispatched to set up an army outpost on the island of Bouka-Toullorom where Boko Haram has carried out several offensives in recent years.

The outpost is situated between the villages of Ngouboua and Kaiganear Ngouboua and is part of a military reorganisation to deal with the jihadists.

Reports gathered revealed that there have been numerous attempts by the terrorists to conquer the unit in successive waves.

Though the death toll of the recent attack is still unconfirmed, the Chadian presidency recounts 20 dead and several wounded soldiers. Other sources, however, said at least 35 had been killed, with several more soldiers missing.

The sources also said the jihadists had also killed at least four civilians as they retreated to their hideouts.

In recent times, Boko Haram terrorists have spread to the swampy Lake Chad zone in the west of the country, where the armies of Chad, Nigeria, and Niger have been fighting the Islamist militants for years.

In March 2020, the insurgents killed 92 Chadian soldiers and wounded 47 others.
