ANA launches new book in Abuja

Story from Adah ABAH, Abuja

A new literary baby was born into the world in Nigeria on Tuesday when a 78 – page book containing a collection of 26 poems authored by one of the country’s literary stars, Ba’ aba Ibrahim, with the title: “A Speck of Dust” was launched in Abuja, the federal capital.

The event which was hosted at the Committee Room of the National Centre for Women Development in Abuja by the Association of Nigeria Authors (ANA) witnessed the presence of literary icons and personalities from across Nigeria.

Congratulating the author, the Chairman of the occasion, Dr Garba Abari, who is the director general of the Nigeria Orientation Agency (NOA) described the book as a collection of poems reflecting different nuances and conjectures in society, while also describing the writer as lifetime traveller.

Abari expressed surprise at the thoughtfulness and intellectual depth of the author, saying, “I know him very closely for years, but at the intellectual level, I didn’t know him to be that deep,” adding that the work is a quantum leap for the development of literature in Nigeria.

He equally expressed the readiness of his agency to continue to support noble ideals such as being celebrated in the launch of the book.

Encouraging members of the public to endeavour to pick their own copies and read, Abari picked his own copies with an undisclosed amount.

After a brief reading from the book by the poet, Ba’ aba Ibrahim, from the book, it was then time for the review and presentation of the book to the public which was done by Mr Oko Owoicho.

According to the book reviewer, the book is a must-read for all categories of people in today’s society as the author uses the collection of poems to explore every area of life, especially as it concerns man’s relationship with his environment while seeking balance.

“The author moves from simple and particular issues to complex and general issues, and what is most interesting about the collection is the way the author engages the subjects in various forms,” Owoicho said.

Amid the goodwill messages that were pouring in at the event, the book was officially launched, first by the Chief launcher, Senator Ibrahim Mohammed Bomoi, The Turakin Fika, who was represented by Prof. Zana of Nile University, as he launched the book with N2 million.
