NDE trains, empowers 26 youths with starter packs in Adamawa

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has trained and empowered 26 youths with starter packs and over N2.7 million cash in Adamawa.
Speaking during the presentation in Yola on Tuesday, Roseline Olaomi Silvia, Head of Special Public Works department, charged the beneficiaries to take advantage of the empowerment and impact their lives.
Olawomi, represented by Mrs Alabi Olabisi Atinuke, said that federal government is always committed to empowering people in order to reduce unemployment in the country.
She advised them not to sell out the kits or hoard them and urged them to start working with the packs and be employers of labour as well as to mentor others.
In his remarks, Malam Mohammed Ibrahim, NDE Adamawa Coordinator, called on the beneficiaries to understand that white collar jobs are no longer available, hence the need to apply skills acquired in to practice.
Ibrahim who was represented by Mr Nuhun Bello, Vocational Skill Department, said that even those who were in service complain of their income.
“Please when you go out here, start planning on how to save and start paying back the loan as at when due.
“If you apply the skill in to practice definitely you will be self reliant and be employers of labour,” he said.
He also warned them not to sell out the equipments given to them.
Sakina Muhammad, the training HOD, explained that the beneficiaries were trained on three skills; Interlock making, l Soft landscaping and Plaster of Paris (POP).
She called on them to understand that the starter packs given is loan and they were expected to start paying back after six months.
“If you fail to do so, we can easily locate you, your guarantors and we also have your Bank Verification Number (BVN).
“We will also be monitoring your business to ensure that the objective of the programme is achieved,” she said.
The 10 beneficiaries under POP have received a generator, filing machine, hand gloves and cash of N62,000.
Eight beneficiaries under Interlock making received wheelbarrow, shovel, hand trowel, hand gloves, hammer and cash of N183,000, while eight beneficiaries under Soft landscaping received pumping machine, hoes and N82,000 cash each.
