Forgery Scandal: Anambra Gov. mandates counselling session for UTME result manipulator

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered that Mmesoma Joy Ejikeme be referred to the State Guidance Counselor for counselling after she admitted to forging her Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result.

This directive was disclosed in a statement signed by Nnaemeka Egwuonwu, the Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Ministry of Education, and made available to Channels Television.

In a letter addressed to the Principal of Anglican Girls Secondary School Nnewi, Governor Soludo instructed the immediate commencement of psychological counselling and therapy sessions for Mmesoma.

The letter, signed by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, also stated that Mmesoma should be handed over to a Professor of Clinical Psychology.

This directive aligns with one of the recommendations of the Committee set up by the Anambra State Government to investigate the matter.

The revelation of the forged results caused public interest and generated controversy and concerns.

According to Channels TV, the committee of inquiry established by the Anambra State Government to investigate the examination fraud involving Mmesoma confirmed her manipulation of the UTME result. She claimed a score of 362, whereas her actual score was 249.

The committee’s eight-page report stated that the candidate admitted to fabricating the result herself using her phone.

In response to the report of the Anambra State Committee of Inquiry, which implicated Mmesoma, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) stated that it feels vindicated. The Board maintained that its system was not and cannot be compromised.

Despite facing criticism for initially identifying Mmesoma as a fraud, JAMB released a statement on Saturday, asserting that it “will not despair, despite the painful realization that some Nigerians will go to great lengths to tarnish the Board’s good name.”
