Gunmen kill admission seeker, set palace, car ablaze

In the Okanla community of Osun State, a tragic incident unfolded on Sunday as armed men stormed the palace of the Olokanla of Okanla.

During the attack, an admission seeker named Ibrahim Qudus was killed, and the assailants proceeded to set the palace building and a car on fire.

Speaking to PUNCH Metro, the uncle of the deceased, Jimoh Qadri, revealed that the attackers, led by a man known as Naim, did not cover their faces, except for Naim himself. Qadri expressed confusion over the motive behind the attack but speculated that it could be related to a land dispute in the area.

Qadri explained, “The attackers were after me and they searched around the house. When they could not find me, they vandalized the building and proceeded to my family house, where my late father, Olokanla of Okanla, used as his palace. It was there they saw Qudus, a son to my elder brother, who was living in Ibadan until he recently returned home to seek university admission, after writing UTME. He was killed, and they put his corpse in my car parked within the premises and set the vehicle ablaze. They also set the palace ablaze.”

The Osun Police Command spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, confirmed the incident and mentioned that the Commissioner of Police had already visited the scene. Additional security operatives have been deployed to prevent further unrest in the area.

The family of the deceased is pleading for the perpetrators to be apprehended, and they urge the security agencies to take swift action in bringing them to justice.
