Wike, Fubara reach agreement to end political rift after meeting with Tinubu
After weeks of dramatic twists in Rivers State, Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, have reached a resolution on Monday after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Aso Villa in Abuja.
The meeting was attended by Governor Fubara, Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), ex-Rivers governor, Peter Odili, and some traditional rulers from the state, with participation from Vice President Kashim Shettima and the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila.
After Monday’s meeting, the warring parties agreed that all matters instituted in the courts by Fubara and his team be withdrawn immediately.

Details of the agreement were signed by Fubara, Wike, Amaewhule, and other significant individuals involved in the crisis, with the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, also signing the document.
The parties resolved to recognise the leadership of Martin Amaewhule in the Rivers State House of Assembly and not that of Edison Ehie, as well as to recognise Amaewhule and his 26 allies who recently resigned from the PDP to join the APC.
Other resolutions include reinstating the remunerations and benefits of all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and their staff, allowing the Assembly to choose where they conduct their legislative business without interference from the Executive arm of Government, and reinstating the names of commissioners who resigned due to the political crisis for approval by the House of Assembly.
Additionally, the dissolution of the Local Government administration was deemed null and void.
Rivers State has been a theatre of chaos in the last three months with the state House of Assembly serving as the “boxing ring”.
The rift between Wike and Fubara split lawmakers in the House, leading to 27 members defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party where Wike currently serves as a minister.
The misunderstanding prompted an impeachment plot against Governor Fubara, the demolition of the Rivers State House of Assembly complex, and mass resignation of pro-Wike commissioners in Fubara’s cabinet.
