Truck crushes 14 worshippers to death in Kano

A moving truck lost control and crushed at least 14 worshippers in Imawa town along the Zaria-Kano highway in Kura local government area, Kano State.
According eye witness accounts, the tragic incident occured when the truck ran into the worshippers on their way from Juma’at prayer.
The Kano Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Ibrahim Abdullahi, who confirmed the incident to newsmen, said several other persons also sustained various degrees of injury.
In a statement by his spokesperson, CRC Abdullahi Labaran, the Sector Commander said preliminary reports showed that the truck with registration number: MKA 537 XN, lost control and collided with pedestrians who had just concluded observing the Friday prayers.
He said, “The tragic road traffic crash was reported at 1350hrs.”

“Upon receiving the distress call, FRSC Kano State Command promptly dispatched personnel to the scene, alongside other security agencies, to initiate rescue operations and provide immediate medical assistance to the injured victims,” he said.
The Sector Commander said efforts were ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.
CC Abdullahi, while expressing his condolences to families of the deceased, emphasied the corps’ commitment to road safety while urging all road users to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such avoidable tragedies.
