Senate confirms Ifeanyi Ubah’s death

The Nigerian Senate confirmed the death of Senator Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South Senatorial District in the National Assembly. The confirmation came on Saturday afternoon, July 27, 2024.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) stalwart died in a hotel in London, United Kingdom, after traveling there two days ago.

In a statement by Senate spokesperson Senator Adeyemi Adaramodu, the Senate expressed deep sorrow and profound regret: “It is with deep sorrow and profound regret that the Nigeria Senate announces the passing of our esteemed colleague, Senator Ifeanyi Uba, who until his passing represented the Anambra South Senatorial District.”

The statement highlighted Ubah’s exemplary leadership, commitment to public service, and advocacy for his constituents. Ubah, the founder and CEO of Capital Oil and Gas Industries Limited, was recognised for his contributions to Nigeria’s energy sector and his philanthropic work through the Ifeanyi Uba Foundation, which provided scholarships, healthcare, and support to the less privileged.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio remarked, “Senator Ifeanyi Uba was a dedicated and passionate legislator whose contributions have left an indelible mark on our nation. His commitment to his constituents and his work in the Senate were exemplary.”

The Senate extended its deepest sympathies to Ubah’s family, friends, and constituents, offering condolences to the Government and people of Anambra State. They expressed hope that his legacy of service and dedication would provide solace to those mourning his loss.

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah first won election to the Senate in 2019 and again in 2023 on the ticket of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) before defecting to APC. He was also the Chief Executive Officer of Capital Oil, founded in 2001, with outlets primarily in the South-East and South-West regions of Nigeria and one of the largest tank farms for petroleum storage in the country.
