In a bid to improve education in Yobe State, the Yobe State Universal Basic Education Board (YSUBEB), in collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has launched a 7-day training program aimed at enhancing the skills of public primary and secondary school teachers.

The training, titled “Teaching at the Right Level,” is being conducted in Damaturu, Potiskum, and Nguru local government areas. This initiative is designed to equip teachers with modern, effective teaching methods that will enhance classroom engagement and boost student performance.

Malam Isa Shettima, the Acting Chairman of YSUBEB, highlighted the importance of this training as part of Governor Mai Mala Buni’s broader strategy to transform the educational system in the state. “Our mission is to provide teachers with the tools they need to deliver quality education, and this partnership with UNICEF is a crucial element of that effort,” Shettima stated.

The program includes hands-on, interactive sessions where teachers are introduced to innovative teaching techniques, such as using mats to foster closer interaction and a more engaging learning environment. The training aims to ensure that teachers return to their classrooms equipped with new strategies to improve student outcomes.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the training, with one teacher noting, “This has been an invaluable experience. We are eager to implement these new approaches in our schools.”

The Commissioner of Basic Education also made visits to the training centers, reaffirming the state government’s commitment to supporting teachers and enhancing the quality of education in Yobe State.

Malam Shettima concluded by emphasizing the long-term impact of the program: “This partnership between YSUBEB and UNICEF is set to reshape education in Yobe, ensuring that our students receive the best possible education.”
